Roland Public
Schools
The
Roland Public School system is located on a 45 acre
campus in the middle of the town of Roland. The school
district is made up of an upper and lower elementary, a
middle school and a high school. The school serves a
student population of 1300.
The Roland school district has been an important part of
the community since its conception in the 1890's. Before
1921, there was only an elementary school. The first
high school was begun in 1921 with J. H. Dodson as
superintendent. As the local population grew, so did the
school.
There is a strong commitment to Academics in the Roland
Schools over the past 20 years. This has been reflected
by the student high placements in Academic Contests held
at Connors and Wilburton Colleges. At Connors the
students have won the title 19 out of the 20 years and
at Eastern College then won 18 times. Our faculty, along
with the past and present members, takes pride in these
accomplishments.
The students have a wide variety of subjects to choose
from ranging in the difficulty from basic core classes
to honor classes, advanced placement and distance
learning from CASC in Poteau. Because of our curriculum,
our students ACT scores have been very competitive with
other area schools. Our graduating seniors feel
confident to go on to college and excel. We consistently
have students go on to the University of Oklahoma,
Oklahoma State and the University of Arkansas, as well
as many other area colleges and universities. They
graduate and go on to successful and rewarding careers.
Roland High School has also produced five Academic All
State Students. These students represent the top 10
percent in the state of Oklahoma.
The extra-curricular activities program includes a
winning football program, championship boys and girls
basketball teams, excellent baseball and softball teams,
a good golf team, and a fine track program. A very
strong and successful FFA program is offered, as well as
a successful band and choir program. Speech and Debate
are also offered.
We are proud of our high school and hope to continue to
provide an educational program that enables all student
to learn, achieve, succeed, and to become productive
citizens, an to prepare for their future. We recognize
the diversity of needs and aspirations among our
students, and we are committed to the development of
each individual as a successful, responsible and
productive citizen who is prepared for the challenges of
the 21st Century. For move information se our web site
